Trainin'
vs. Self-trainin'
"Let me show
you why they call me "Please don't kill me!" " - Sewer Dog
When ye got enough SP's to
train yerself into a respectable thief then ye got three choices...ye kin
either train yerself, seek trainin' from a thief better den you or find
the thief trainer for those skills that he teaches.
Self-trainin' -
Self-trainin' involves
a lot less fuss but costs twice as much in SP's as gettin' trained does.
To self-train ye just use the commands: selftrain <pickpocket or
whatever>. Simple as dat. But 'member, each rank in Pickpockets, fer
example, costs ye 10 SP's. O' course, you kin do it anytime ye damn' well
wanna and ain't gotta spend all day lookin' fer another thief.
Thief-trainin' -
Trainin' under another
thief costs a lot less SP's than self-trainin' an' is the preferred way
to go, but it requires that you find yerself another thief. And you of
all people should know jus' how much thieves don' wanna be found. Even
then ye gotta find one that'll train ye out o' the kindness o' their hearts,
or at least fer a reasonable price.
To learn from another thief
ye just get 'em to teach you and then, while they're doin' that,
ye just learn <pickpocket, grab or palm> from <the other guy>
The theif trainer
-
Now here's where things
gets a bit touchy. Ye can't tell somebody, in public-like, where that ole
thief trainer is. That would be cheatin'. Now, I don't mind all that so
much but who wants the GM's to take a sudden dislike to 'em, right? Right.
So you just gots to figure out where that ole thief trainer is all on yer
own. I can give you a few hints and some information on what and how he
teaches (see the
Thief Trainer section here), but that's really the best I can do.
The Thieve's Guild
-
Right about now yer askin'
yerself "But how do I learn all dem other thievin' skills? Like slashin'
a sack off'a somebody?" Well, I hates to be de one to break it to ya',
but the guild holds a purty tight rein on all dem skills. As a non-guild
member ye kin only learn Basic Pickpocket, Grab, Palm, Coin sharpenin',
Cut and Lift, Handoff and Receive Handoff. Any other skill is forbidden
to be taught to a non-member, so good luck findin' somebody what knows
'em who'll be willin' to teach 'em to ye.
Yer ideal goal, o' course,
is to werk up about 100 SP's by palmin', then learn Basic Pickpocketing
to rank 20 from another thief or the thief trainer (or 200 SP's and self-train
to rank 20). Then ye kin hits the streets and start skinnin' like a real
pro. Now, if yer anythin' like ole Sewer Dog, you won't be able to wait
that long. That's understandable and, as it 'appens, fer the better 'cause
ye want some kinda hands-on experience 'fore ye start skinnin' fer real.
I ain't gonna suggest too much a' dat, though. Ye don't wanna get too much
attention early on. Anonyym...anonimm...ah, hell....stayin' unknown is
the name o' de game.

the years been complaining?" - Sewer Dog
