The Thief

success in life: 1) Don't people everything you know..." - Sewer Dog
Finding the Thief Trainer ain't
the easiest thing in the world, right? But, then, nothin' good ever is,
dammit. So, here a bit of hints for findin' that ole coot. First of all,
it should be real obvious that the guy is an NPC. That is, you might even
have run across while you was wandering about town and not realized he
was the mysterious thief-trainer. Much as folks like Constantine, Sesquiculus
and Leda he's someone that pretty much just stands around waitin' fer ye
to tell him to train ye or sell ye somethin'..
So, try these here on fer
size. Yup, they're a bit vague and probably not much help but who the hell
asked me stick my neck out fer you, eh? So shut up, already.
1) He associates with,
a trains for a fee, thieves, thugs, muggers an assorted ruff-n-tumbles.
Think about it. What part of town do you expect a feller like 'at to set
up shop? If ye don't know Iridine well, that's okay. Get some maps of town
off of a good map site (I recommend Pepa Quest) on the Links section. Now
what's the seediest, nastiest and most dangerous parts of town? Well, there
ye go.
2) He don't have a sign
readin', "Thief trainer" over his shop door. He may look like a thief trainer
but he won't be advertising it. Unlike you, he ain't a moron.
3) If you try to learn
pickpocket from <whoever> and they don't teach ye nothin', they
probably ain't a thief trainer. If they do, they probably are.
4) The Thieves Guild hasn't
killed him or run him out of town yet so they probably know him, or even
sponsor him. He may even be under their protection. Any experianced thief,
whether or not he's a guild thief, will probably know where he is and be
willin' to take ye there fer a small fee. If you go around askin' folks,
"Where's the Thief Trainer?" then yer a moron and I'm glad yer around to
take attention offa me.
5) If yer in a shop with
a bunch of people standin' around lookin' innocent, not speakin' to each
other or buyin' anything yer probably found the thief trainer. If you try
to learn from the feller while folks is standin' around doin' nothin' then
yer probably a moron who found the thief trainer.
There ye go. If that ain't
enough fer ye, then congratulations, yer as lazy and no-account as any
thief could hope to be. Now run along and don't let me catch ye workin'
me skinnin' spots, eh?
