September 12, 2004 - Battle of Monlon

Monlon has seen much action in recent years. For a long stretch of time, the numbers and sheer ferocity of the Cineran troops terrorized the nearby fronts, making it a death trap for all but the most skilled of Iridine's warrior residents. A shadow of doom spread over the Holy City for some time, slowly making itself known. Then suddenly, the silent eye of the storm passed, and once more, Cineran Warlords pressed their might directly upon the city. Most of the northern district was immediately sacked and pillaged, though a desperate stand by citizens within the city managed to hold off the horde at the city's center. Unfortunately, campaigning Sordo Calsuan and several of his troops were trapped some distance north of the city, without help. Similarily, the ferry leading to and from Monlon had been destroyed, preventing those inside Monlon to seek further reinforcements.

Oddly enough, aid came in the form of several Aestivan troops, after their leader, General Narisse, declared a rescindment of their alliance to the Cineran cause, allowing a small number of her Hoplite troops to take up arms against their former allies in Monlon. The pious people of Aestiva could not tolorate seeing Ereal's Holy City ravaged and desecrated.

Together, these forces managed to hold their own, but it was obvious that they were hard-pressed. A large cart was prepared, disguised as a common trade caravan, wherein hid fresh troops and new supplies. Once in Monlon, they were able to add to the defensive effort. Slowly but surely, the Cinerans were pushed back to the traditional barricades that seperated battlefield from city.

That did not stop the horde, though. Even after losing Warlord Juxta and the former legio pallisade to the Iridinian defenders, they sent one last desperate attack against the city that lasted several hours. At the same time, Sordo's forces could be seen to the north, fighting for their very survival. Through a stroke of luck (or perhaps favor of the sun god), Calsuan was able to receive Grey Swan reinforcements. With that extra help, he was able to break free of the Cinerans oppressing him and his troups. At the same time, the Monlon defenders (led by then-Tribune Adipus Vestrunius) held off the pressing forces long enough for Sordo to bear down upon the Cinerans in a crushing victory.

The Holy City is now again under full Iridinian control. There are talks with the Aestivans, and mention of them visiting the city soon, in the hopes of improving relations. Sordo Calsuan, in honor of his leadership and victories, had the honorable name of Cinius added to his own. Now that Monlon has been appointed an Assistant Governor (Talius Noraetis) to help Governor Flavius rebuild the Republic's most hallowed of cities, things look very promising, now that the shadow of war has passed by the Holy City, sparing her.

Here is a list of all the PCs/PNPCs involved in Monlon's defense (in alphabetical order):

April 11, 2002 - Assistant Governor Holds Blackvine Town Meeting

The Assistant governor of Blackvine once again held a town meeting. This meeting was called to give those who call Blackvine their home or have an interest in it a chance to see the plans unfolding for the tiny village and to voice their opinions on what should be done.

The assistant governor provided a detailed map of his plans that can be viewed at his headquarters and told those present how he plans to lay the foundation of his grand plan to make the village a thriving city of the republic. Many things were discussed, most mainly focused around the shops and buildings that should be built though. Blacksmiths, Baths, Leatherworks and many other common businesses were suggested, but the assistant governor said he was mainly looking for services or products not offered by other cities, things to make his tiny village stand out.

With this in mind, several new shops were suggested. Fine tailors that would craft the newest styles of clothing, jewelry shops to rival that of Iridine and Monlon, Flower shops and entertainment such as the amphitheater. Also suggested were shops that cater to new types of weapons, such as a store that sold fine shields or an archery shop with improved bows and various arrows. The assistant governor said he's been trying to bring out a shop for the artists of the area, one that would supply canvas, paints and all other types of supplies.

Plans for banks, jewelry and other high cost merchants though are far down on the list where they will hardly be considered until the town has its grand new walls in place. The assistant governor also said they were making an attempt to find a healer to grace the village, but that perhaps the Soldiers of Ereal might supply missionaries to do this service.

The biggest news of all though, is that the senate has given permission for the first part of the village construction to begin. The assistant governor has told citizens that they may survey possible routes and provide a map for him, suggesting how the road to Blackvine should be built. It should start at the Vetallun bridge and make its way to the village square.

March 29, 2002 - Cineran Boy Runs from Other Cinerans, Legio and Citizens Fight Everybody; Boy Escapes

The gruff thoughts of Aulus and other bewildered Iridine soldiers broke into thoughts as they considered why several Cineran patrols were spotted running all over the Blackvine area. Careful reconaissance informed the Centurion that it was a person that was being chased, as opposed to some sort of valuable animal or mineral. A deputation of residents and Legionaires filtered into Blackvine in search of the quarry the Cinerans hunted as well. While Senior Tribune Talius Noraetis conferred with Cinerans (which negotiations broke down into violence several times) several others found and escorted the quarry into safety. It is unknown where he is now, though the former constable Annatar has been warranted for treason following his disobeyal of Legate Saliea Illandria's possiblly illegal order to desist. He is still at large.

February 3, 2002 - Legio Gains Small Victory on Killing Fields of Monlon

The sun rose of the 2nd day of Aera, 223rd year of the Republic to find a group of valiant defenders of Iridine standing over the site of a harsh and brutal battle fought in the battlefields of Monlon.

Wolf and Lion Squads of the First Century of the First Cohort (Rearing Stallions) of Legio I Invex fought valiantly through the night, leaving an unknown number of corpses in their wake. The backs of the battle toughened officers and soldiers were more sore from carrying away the plundered equipment of their enemies than from the fighting itself.

Decurion Enkar Kalcaron lead the force through wave after wave after wave of Cinner onslaught while Optio Dahkneth Shilmenah led a counter attack to the ambush that cut off the original force from retreating. His actions allowed the entire operation to come away with no casualties save a few broken limbs and bruises.

Optio Mathus Antonius Maximus also saved the lives of his soldiers. He personally dragged the many unconscious Legio bodies back from the frontlines through the corpse-ridden battlefield into the barricades where he nursed them back to health.

Three Civilians should also be mentioned; The lovely Kelles, Talanus and Tatiama. Their brave acts of healing in the baricades allowed many men to live despite their injuries while the battle waged onward.

These people mentioned are but a few of the Iridinian heroes, Legio and civilian, to help keep the Republic remain free of Cineran occupation.

January 11, 2002 - Much Has Happened, News Staff Offers Apologies

We'd like to apologize for a dearth of news updates the last few weeks. There were problems with e-mail submissions and such. Assuredly, it won't happen again if we can help it.

First off, a very happy New Year to all members of the TEC and Skotos community. May your next year be bright with joy and devoid of sorrow.

Lots of things have happened that haven't been reported on the site, unfortunately. For instance, several new businesses have opened; a foreign wine seller moved into a shop in Transinvexium, southwest of the Auction House. Around the corner from him, along the river walk, the Blessed Hearth re-opened its doors after years of abandonment following the Cineran Occupation. It seems that the area north of the River is finally being revitalized into a community, after a Senate-appointed crew cleaned the streets of the rubble that followed the pitched Battle of Iridine fifteen odd years ago.

Several new, and richly decorated, faces have appeared among Iridine. That's right, two new classes of patricians have joined the other two, bringing the total to between fifteen and twenty PC patricians. Keep a lookout for them as the system of player-driven patronage swings into full gear.

Signet rings are out on the market! @request your custom signet ring today. RP and IC costs apply.

Keep on the lookout for more changes, both from the TEC Underground News and from the world of Midlight itself! Remember, things are *always* happening in TEC.
